A Visit to New Taipei City Energy Education Center,
San-Zhi ElementarySchool, Knowing the Energy Education Strategies on Campus
作者:張凱復
While introducing energy education, the key is held in the hands of those
willing to practice and promote.
Principal of San-Zhi elementary school, Wen-Bin, Chang said, “I am very proud of
our Devoted teachers.” We saw San-Zhi elementary school facilitate students’
learning in various ways.
We found that teachers of San-Zhi Elementary school are willing to teach without
asking rewards for being the instructors of students’ clubs. Based on personal
interest, they taught students with more knowledge and skills. Learning through
students’ clubs played an important role in curriculum.
Through students’ clubs, students can learn with more motivation, meanwhile,
their knowledge and skills were deepened.
During the interview, Principal Chang’s prospect and identification toward
Energy Education Center was visualized. Principal Chang wanted to make the best
use of Energy Education Center by building an energy education system along the
north coast of Taiwan and to connect the characteristics and environmental
resources among schools. By doing so, a large learning community can be formed.
Even then, a one-day tour learning program can be developed. Through the
integration of environmental resources, citizens can participate more actively
in energy education. Therefore, energy education will not be a fighting-alone
within a single school situation. The number of people joining energy education
will be doubled than before. This is indeed a great dream. Whatever hardship
lies ahead, the dream will definitely be fulfilled in the near future.
We also noticed Dean Zhi-Miao, Yeh’s dedication. She had cultivated in energy
education for a long while and gone through much literature reviewing as well as
researches. Actually she was not graduated from natural science related
departments. However, she introduced us every equipment and theory with thorough
understanding. This cannot be achieved without hard-working endeavors.Dean Yeh’s
great enthusiasm regarding to energy education was realized through her friendly
smiling and unselfish sharing. Dean Yeh indicated proudly, “We have thousands of
pictures associated with energy education for people to refer to.” Accumulating
numerous experience, energy education is ready to shine in San-Zhi elementary
school. Led by Principal Chang, Dean Yeh and teachers, San-Zhi elementary school
is full of chances of energy education.
Beautiful environment brings meaningful and efficient learning
When arrived San-Zhi elementary school, we saw a beautiful campus. What
impressed us the most were the posters, slogans, and students' works of energy
education about different themes. This can be an efficient way to merge energy
education into daily life. Children can absorb the knowledge and concepts
effortlessly. To our surprise, the plants on the parapets along the corridors
are thriving. Generally speaking, these plants will be withered within a short
time due to either lack of watering or caring. As a result, teachers often felt
frustrated taking care of these plants. Eventhough plenty of water was provided,
those plants may not grow so well. Dean Yeh said with a smile, "We have a good
staff. He always takes care of these plants. Most important of all, he linked
several hoses to the flowerpots. Once the faucets were turned on, water flew to
every pot. The water was collected from rain. We all agreed that this is a
attentive design.
There is a water resources classroom in San-Zhi elementary school. Located at
its threshold is a model of water resources distribution.Entering the classroom,
although small in size, the settings in the classroom are quite pleasant. There
are statistics charts and posters which try to bring forth correct knowledge on
the wall.
Moreover, people can manipulate teaching aids such as water-saving faucets,
water-saving toilets with sink, flushing switch with different water loading.
Calligraphy works on the wall drew our attention to the other perspectives of
energy education than their original art purposes. These demonstrations are
really impressive and inspiring for us to know the possibilities of energy
education.
There is also an energy classroom where also installed teaching aids, students’
experiment results and charts. We can see a board which contrasts traditional
lights with electricity-saving ones.
Students can understand the differences between traditional and
electricity-saving lights by turning the switches. Solar power is also
discussed. As for the teaching aids, students can ride the bikes to generate
electricity to float a styrofoam ball or to light the LED lights. We assume that
students surely love to take courses in this classroom.
Principal Chang indicated that he would like to broaden the varieties of recycle
energy demonstration. So that students can experience recycled energy more
thoroughly. Meanwhile, there will be more shelves to be installed to accommodate
students' works and demonstrate related objects in the future.
Besides these visible facilities, San-Zhi elementary school built a recycled
water reservoir under the school play ground. The water was used practically for
toilets flushing and plants watering.
Principal Chang pointed out that the wind-solar powered street lamp will be
moved by the gate. Although the weather in San-Zhi may not be suitable for solar
power, by doing so, the equipment can arouse more attention.
On such a campus of green energy, bathed in this beautiful environment, children
can easily be motivated by this atmosphere and proceed their learning.
Generation inheritances and resources integration generate eternal learning.
During the interview, we witnessed the enthusiasm of San-Zhi elementary school
toward energy Education. We learned a lot. Principal Chang indicated that he is
happy that Dean Yeh had found her successors, that there are more and more
teachers acquainted with these facilities and teaching materials. Because of
those who are willing to devote themselves to education and with varieties of
environment, energy education will continue to grow.
We know that energy education is not a short-sighted but a continual foreseeing
program. The true success lies in the inheritances from generation to
generation. Utilizing the production which San-Zhi elementary school had
conducted, the fire was kindled with their dedication to energy education.
Nevertheless, we know that somehow we are weak in some perspectives. Only by
integration and application of these resources and data can we broaden the
horizon of the energy education. We were enlightened by this interview. Do not
hesitate, let us begin and turn over a whole new leaf.
